Prodcut Review..... The Bead Barrette

Oh My I can not believe its been so long since my last post, I will truly try to do better. But My first post back will be a product review
The Bead Barrette. I've been seeing and reading the buzz about it, and was more than a Little Excited because they weren't yet sold in my area, But you can now find them at Walmart and my favorite go to Snapaholics  when I don't carry a certain item, i'm sure they do.

The Bead Barrette came to life, when owner and designer Jennifer Zachery, needed a solution to the common problem of Toddlers and Beads, when her daughter Kyndal's daycare banned beads ( in their center and thank heavens they did or we wouldn't have this awesome product) in their center.
'
I will first say that I had dropped them and for a second my Heart Dropped. but i realized that i didnt have thousands of loose beads, all over my floor. SO then and there it was love....

these bead barrattes were so easy to apply. I was a little hesitant to try them on Tye because of the word "barrette" but i can say they are truly unisex if you get the right colors

Which was easy enough, and we added some basketball beads because Tye asked, and i did not have to use rubber bands on his ends, bonus!

I can truly saw I am more than happy with these snap on beads. It was quick easy and saved me lots of frustration, from having to bead and tread beads...  I can just imagine all of the creative uses of  for these, and the versatility of hair types and styles. they can be used on ponytails, braids, twist,  locs and so much more.

Product Review... nuNaat

Where to begin? I had the opportunity to review nuNaat's Karite Special, hair care collection. and when i say review, I mean Review the whole line and not sample sizes neither. but the same bottle you would buy off a shelf at any beauty supply store. I was able to choose any of the lines available, and choose their Karite Special with Shea Butter as it most fit the needs of my hair and some of my clients. I received the complete collection, the shampoo, conditioner, combing cream, hair mask, and
features a total of 5 items:
Shampoo (8.4 oz) - Retail Price: $5.49 each
Conditioner (8.6 oz) - Retail Price: $5.49 each
Combing Cream (10.3 oz) - Retail Price: $5.99 each
Hair Mask (17.6 oz) - Retail Price: $6.99 each
AntiFrizz (5.2 oz) - Retail Price: $6.49 each

first i start off with the packaging, a plain box but when i opened it i saw lots of colors. I"m not the most earth friendly or eco cautious person the block but i try to some stuff, like recycling( for the CRV) and using reusable shopping bags and containers for lunch etc... So when i saw the box was stuff with shredded magazine paper, that was a plus in my book.

Tye was also excited, because we had a package, but not so much when he found it was hair care products. he had worn is hair in a fro all week and knew what was going to be coming soon. But i couldn't wait till the weekend, and used the Karité Special Leave-In Detangler (Combing Cream). the directions say only a small amount is needed and they are right. I was able to comb through and band his hair with only a small amount, and the smell was heavenly.  it is like a soft powdery type of smell, that wasn't too much and wasn't too little.

So I decided to use this on myself.  was planning on getting my hair done and thought it would be a perfect time to try out the nuNaat collection on myself. I got my hair washed conditioned, deep conditioned and also used the thermal sealant when got my hair blow dry.
My stylist and I decided to

while getting my hair washed and conditioned etc, I asked the stylist what she thought about the products... She loved the feel, the smell, and the lather it produced... On a side note, she noticed that  each of the products had the same texture and consistency's.

Also one last thing, she mentioned was if this product weighed hair down. And all i can  say on the walk home, my hair bounced all

Interested in getting a bottle of your own? you can purchase them online at
sallybeauty walgreens and http://www.drugstore.com/ on their website, you can suggest places you would like to see their products  they even have a nifty gadget or app on their hface book page that can locate a store close to you.

Review.... Sidewinders

I have had the pleasure, of doing a product review on Sidewinders Hair Holders. This being my first official review i wanted it to be perfect. But perfection doesn't exist in the hair world. you just give it your best and hope for the best, or at least  learn what you would do diffierent if you have the oppurnity.

I was sooo excited when i got the package in the mail....

Since I have a boy, I really didn't think that I should add these babies to my arsenal, But i'm glad I did, they make perfect gifts and add pizazz, to most of the plain quick and easy hairstyles I have done.( But i am thinking about getting some black and clear ones to try on Tye, stay tuned for that post.

I was really excited when i received my package in the mail. Shipping was extraordinarily QUICK... I mean in a matter of Days, its like processing time didn't exist

So far my favorite quick and easy style with the sidewinders, was to use as a sort of bridge between ponytails.

Even though sidewinders are easy to put on, I had trouble on my first attempt, but the second go around was perfect, and quick. It sure beats trying to put on 20 plus beads on a braid, even with an easy beader.

What I liked most about the sidewinders beside them being easy to put on the mix and matching you can do, is that, it kept, the children busy, while, i parted, detangled, and style the hair. I used the sidewinder hair holders on several children and each child had a blast twisting, retwisting and mix and matching the sidewinders. Which was a blessing, because it can be trying and hard at times to style a young children s hair, and we try many tricks and treats to try and keep them busy and calm. by their selves the side winders did the trick, with out the movie, the candy and the toys.... That in it self is a reason to buy them.

I had so much fun playing with these and trying to find fun and creative styles

you can buy them here at their website

who knew something so cute, could come from the inspriration on an Rv.

Tye's new rainboots...Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

So if you have ever been on my personally page, and seen pictures, you know tye Loves him some rainboots, he can wear them with anything, and i mean anything. I remeber when he was 2, for the whole summer, he wear his boots with everything, basketball shorts, church clothes, his swimsuits, you name it. So you can imagine, when i see a pair I grab them... :o)

So you can just guess, what I did when i saw these.... they were bright and colorfull, and the icing on top of the cake, one of his favorite books is chicka chicka boom boom by Bill Martin Jr.
thes soles are really thick and solid
the print is superb, here's a close up

even though they are made of good quality rubber, and very sturdry, they were ligt weight enough so that he was able to run and play kickball today, and even climb around and ride his bike...

I'll think they'll hold up to lots of Tye use/

Since he already had 2 pair of rainboots in his current size, I brougt these bigger so he can wore them, next fall... well last night he got into the box  and was super excited, he marched around the house in just his undies, showing off his new boots... he even had to wear them to school day...

Now all I have to do is find a jacket, and a umberlla, we'd be good to go... and don't they just help the pictures POP...!!!!

Oh and he got his hair comed out last night after wearing a afro for a couple of days, so his hair is in 6 chunky twist....

Product Review... Bow- Issa Boutique

So I'm prepping for my first product review by doing some pre reviews on products, I liked and or purchased... Please be sure to leave any advice or tips, to help  me improve.

Up first is my review on Bow-Issa, Pretty Things for Pretty People. I have had the pleasure of working with owner Rissa, on several occasions. Some may ask but you own  Once Upon a Curl, why would you buy bows from someone else?  Well the answer is simple, somethings you just want it customized or something extra special, and can i say I have yet to be disappointed.

This company was founded in May 2009 on pure L-O-V-E. Love for Owner, Rissa's daughters, Love for style and fashion, and the Love of using my hands to create something beautiful, be it hair or hair bows.

With the price of hair bows way to high for comfort, so she invested in some ribbon and went to town. The rest is history.

Did i mention she loves Custom Orders?

Bows on Chucks?  I got the idea off of Etsy

And here's the inspiration, I maybe biased, But i think my nieces look sooooo much better.

I think she got the colors right to a tee, wondering where you can get a tutu like this? Well its a Once Upon a Curl Original

The Bows where the Perfect addition to my niece's Candy land 5th Birthday party, they may have even been a bigger hit than the candy buffet :o)

Another Bow-Issa Creation, and i believe a Popular one, Hello Kitty

and they make the perfect Gifts :o) too

In summary, whenever i am in need for custom bows 9 times out ten I will be Heading back to Bow-Issa, Unless I'm trying out and supporting an Up and coming Boutique

EAsy Veil and Chain Ponytails with twist for Girls featuring side winders

A couple of Weeks ago, Little Ms. S cut several ponytails from the front of  her hair so there's not much we can do....

So here comes in trusty can ponytails, how depending on how you do them they can also be considered veil ponytails, (tutorial coming soon)

since the top portion of her hair is shorter than the rest regular ponytails would look just funny and kinda like a mullet, which isn't a cute style for a little girl, this day and age.

I actually took this picture a week latter, so this style is really holding up

you may notice that i don't have straight rows like you would see in a garden its more like a brick way, type
of part. It makes the hair style looks Fuller, and since G has thinner hair it worked great

And since i couldn't wait to try them out,Instead of using barrettes or beads, I had to throw in some Sidewinders. Once got the hang of it they were pretty easy  to put on.... Wait review coming soon :o)

I messed up, but it still looks good
